Troubleshoot: Connecting HomeStation to Smartphone Hotspot

If you have correctly entered the name and password for your smart phone's hotspot and it does not connect, or is not recognised, please check the following points:

Note: This articles shows you how to rename the hotspot on an iPhone. You will have to locate the equivalent screen if using an Android phone.

Point 1:

Your smartphone hotspot name must only contain letters and numbers. Characters such as emojis, apostrophes and brackets should be removed by re-naming the hotspot. The exact name of the hotspot can be found on the following screen on an iPhone:

Settings > Personal Hotspot

In this example you can see that the hotspot name is Zoe's iPhone (1). It needs to be renamed so that it reads Zoes iPhone 1 or Zoe iPhone 1

The hotspot can be renamed by going to:

Settings > General > About >Name

Point 2:

On an iPhone, ensure that "Maximise Compatibility" and "Allow others to Join" are activated

On an Android phone, please ensure that you have selected the 2.4 GHz band

Point 3:

Ensure that your phone contract includes the use of the hotspot and that you have mobile phone data activated. If you experience weak mobile phone reception in your home, you might have to go outside where you have good 4/5G connection.
